LATHE SWING AND CENTER DISTANCE

Our lathe function offers a full 17" diameter swing and 32" distance between centers.  Great options for the auto shop as well as gunsmith.  On most conventional lathes if you want 17" swing, you must buy a monster machine 15 feet long and weighing thousands of pounds.   We also feature a full 7.25" swing over the carriage for items such as cylinders and shafts.

Standard distance between centers 32"  Swing over bed  17"   Swing over carriage  7.25"

The accepted method of measuring swing is by the maximum diameter of a part that will clear the machine.
Our machine has 8.5" from the center of the chuck to the lathe bed giving a 17" maximum diameter on
parts like flywheels etc.  The clearance over the moving carriage is 3.625" giving a maximum diameter
of 7.25" over the carriage for turning shafts etc.
We use the accepted method of measuring center to center distance which is from the face of the lathe spindle to the face of the tailstock barrel.  This distance can vary depending on style and manufacture of centers being used.  With the use of the standard Extenda-Center, shafts as long as 40" and diameter of 1" can be turned between centers.
