COMBINATION TAILSTOCK / STEADY REST
We have spent a great deal of time over the years
developing certain unique features to make out lathe function the most
versatile in the industry. One of those features is the
combination tailstock and steady rest. Most conventional lathes
offer a steady rest as an expensive option, and its function is to
support longer pieces that extend beyond the lathe bed- such as
axles and drive shafts. These clamp on style steady rests are
fine for simple turning, but what about the gunsmith or Go kart builder
who needs to turn a taper on the end of a long shaft. With some
out " out of the box" thinking, we came up with the idea to use the
standard tailstock base which has tapering capability as the support
for the steady rest. Another issue with most combination machines
is the extra width of the table which limits the ability to hold
shorter parts between centers- often relying on extension sockets is
the only solution. Because we were already in the process of
re-designing the tailstock assembly, we decided to address this issue
as well and increased the tailstock barrel length and travel to a full
6.25"- more than double that of any other combination machine. As a
final bonus, we also added an attachment device to allow the tailstock
base to be driven by the lathe power feed so you can do those deep hole
boring operations under power.
