AMAZING 1/4 SCALE SUPERCHARGED V-8

This owner is a retired Boeing machinist with a lifetime of experience to enhance his natural skills. He is one of those guys who can always figure out a way to do things that others would find impossible. Coupled with a no compromise work ethic, his projects are gems of fit and finish. A drag racing enthusiast and driver in his younger years, he loves those massive 5000 HP top fuel V-8 motors. In 1994, with retirement approaching, he decided to build a 1/4 scale replica of the classic supercharged drag motor. Not wanting one of those partially finished kits built by others, he designed the motor himself and worked from blueprints kept only in his head. Many years of careful work has the project nearly complete, but like a lot of other skilled people, he found a line forming at his shop door with work to do for others. Now fully retired, he purchased his second machine from us  and has full CNC on both machines.  Look closely at the following photos and you can see what is possible on a SHOPMASTER machine when combined with skilled hands and a creative mind.

Even more amazing is that Chuck has packed his entire machine shop into an 8 X 12 garden shed.

CNC Milling Timing Belt cover

Block, Heads, Pan all milled from billet aluminum.

Pistons, Rods and timing gear installed- notice telephone for scale.

Crankshaft, rods and flywheel- all built to scale and exact replicas of the original.  Crankshaft is one piece and rods use scale rod bolts and babbit bearings.  Main caps are steel in aluminum block.

Compressor vanes for supercharger.  These parts must have extreme high precision to run together at high RPM- Done on the SHOPTASK with CNC by special program written by Chuck.  This job leaves a lot of machinists scratching their heads!

DO try this at home!
